Description

Settlement of soil causes settlement of boundary wall foundation leading to cracking of boundary walls. Similar failure of boundary walls are also caused by foundation on expansive clay in which heaving of soil pushes the masonry wall up leading to cracking. Brick wall when subjected to settlement loads are prone to similar brittle failures due to lack of ductility leading to cracking of walls. Ground beams or strip footings will help in avoiding these kind of failures.
