The consistency limits, namely, Liquid limit, plastic limit & shrinkage limit, are more useful for engineering purposes.
Consistency limit means that the moisture content at which the soil changes from one state to another state.
The consistency limit is also called an Atterberg Limit. They are very significant in the study of clays & some other fine-grained soils.
